With a commitment to ensure access to safe and hygienic drinking water, enhance public health, and prevent waterborne diseases, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water units in Tumakuru district, Karnataka. The ceremony was graced by Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Government of India. Also present were Mr. Ramesh Rao, Vice President & other leadership from Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
Safe drinking water is essential for the health and well-being of every community, yet access remains a challenge in several rural areas in Karnataka. To help address this need, TKM will install 500 litres per hour (LPH) RO water purification units across six locations, including Beligere, Kamberahatti, Hosahatti, Mudlapalya, Junjappanahatti and Somalapura. The project is expected to benefit 9,200 villagers annually across 29 villages, providing families access to clean drinking water with greater ease, safety and confidence.

Shri. V. Somanna Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Government of India said, “Development becomes meaningful when it improves the everyday lives of people. Access to clean drinking water is not merely an infrastructure requirement but a necessity that impacts health, education and the well-being of entire communities. This initiative by Toyota Kirloskar Motor will benefit thousands of residents across villages in Tumakuru and create long-term value for the region. I commend the company for its commitment to community development and its efforts towards supporting the aspirations of rural India.”
Mr. Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “Clean drinking water should never be a privilege; it is a basic necessity that every family deserves. We have seen how access to safe water can positively influence the health and everyday lives of entire communities. The RO units being established in Tumakuru are intended to create lasting value for the villages they serve and support the well-being of future generations. At Toyota Kirloskar Motor, we remain committed to undertaking initiatives that address real community needs and make a meaningful difference where it matters most.”
The Tumakuru initiative further strengthens Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s efforts to create meaningful social impact beyond its business operations. With 51 water purification units already established across India (benefiting over 3.5 lakh people in 312 villages), the company continues to invest in community infrastructure that addresses essential needs and improves quality of life.
