vivo India has launch 6th edition of Switch Off Campaign which aim to address the pervasive issue of excessive digital exposure. The bold and iconic campaign highlights how excessive use of screens has led to modern-day concerns and is adversely affecting human relationships especially parent child relationship.
This year, in collaboration with CyberMedia Research (CMR) vivo has curated a report titled “Impact of Smartphones on Parent – Child Relationship,” that reveals alarming statistics about parental guilt and children’s complaints regarding excessive smartphone use. Below are the findings of the report.
- Indian children demonstrate greater awareness of the negative impacts of excessive smartphone usage compared to their parents, with 8 out of 10 advocating for ‘parental controls’ to regulate their parents’ smartphone habits.
- Almost 94% of children opted for camera, calling and messaging as the three main features. They would not include social media, entertainment and gaming in their parents’ phone
- Excessive smartphone usage emerges as a key friction point in family dynamics, with 69% of children identifying it as a significant source of conflict with their parents.
- Although 75% of parents express concern about their children’s ability to build meaningful relationships, many fail to recognize how their own smartphone dependency impacts their connection with their kids.
- A mutual yearning for deeper relationships is evident, as 76% of children and 84% of parents express a desire for more meaningful family time by reducing distractions caused by smartphones.
