Duolingo, the world’s leading mobile learning platform, today announced the launch of its new “Learn English from Punjabi” literacy course, making English learning more accessible to Punjabi speakers in India and around the world.
Spoken by more than 100 million people worldwide, Punjabi is among the most widely spoken languages globally, with vibrant communities across the world, including India, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Written in Gurumukhi script, Punjabi carries a rich literary and cultural heritage in India. The new course makes it easier for learners to begin their English learning journey from Gurumukhi, helping Punjabi speakers build the skills to access education, career opportunities and connections around the world.
This marks Duolingo’s second regional language course for North India, after Hindi. It builds on Duolingo’s continued investment in regional language education, and reflects the significance of bringing accessible English learning to one of India’s largest and most widely spoken language communities. Punjabi joins Duolingo’s growing portfolio of regional courses, which also includes Hindi, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil.
