3 Ways Technology Has Recently Improved Farming

In the last hundred years or so, technology has really taken off. Because of this, there have been huge improvements in almost all areas of life around the world, including things that have been around for centuries already.

One area that has seen and will continue to see vast changes and improvement due to technology is farming. And because people around the world will always have to eat to stay alive, these improvements can and should be implemented as much as possible to help further humanity.

To see how this has been done in the recent past, here are three ways technology has recently improved farming.

More Efficient Farms

Thanks to modern technology, farms are now more efficient than they have ever been before.

In the past, when you just had a farmer and their employees working on a farm, there was only so much work that could possibly get done in a day. But with new technology like digital farming, more crops can be grown in smaller areas and shorter timeframes, there is less waste when it comes to things like water usage, fertilizer, and pesticides, and the impact of farms on the ecosystem can also be calculated so that it’s minimally harmful. The type of productivity and efficiency means that there will be more farming done the right way.

Farms Are Now More Scalable

In earlier times, people could only have farms that were large enough for them to run by themselves or with their families or workers. This meant that farms couldn’t be very large, as taking care of a big operation just wasn’t a possibility. But now that so many parts of farming can be done through the use of artificial intelligence and automation, farms are now much more scalable than they ever had been before.

What this means for all farmers, be it big farms that are producing a lot or smaller farms that are just trying to help feed a few families or communities, is that they can take on more land and more variation to their farming capabilities to become successful and profitable.

Less Food Loss

One of the worst parts about farming is having to see how much food loss can happen when something goes wrong with the farming season or farming processes. But with the technology we now have available to farmers, things that used to cause a lot of food loss can now be seen coming with enough time to make changes and adjustments. And when this data and forecasting is used correctly, there can be more food for the world to enjoy.

If you thought that farms today look and function just like farms did fifty, twenty, or even ten years ago, consider how the technology mentioned above has helped farms and farming come into the future.
