3 Reasons Your Air Conditioner Isn’t Doing its Job

When the heat amps up in the summer, many of us are happy to turn to our beloved air conditioner. Stepping into our cool home and escaping from the scorching heat is like escaping into your own personal oasis.

However, nothing can be more disappointing than realizing that your air conditioner isn’t doing its job. It’s not only inconvenient, it can be downright frustrating, and affect not only your energy bill, but also your ability to stay comfortable in your own home. The good news is that once you figure out what the problem is, fixing your conditioner is usually a quick fix. Here are some of the most likely reasons why your air conditioner it’s not working properly.

Dirty Filters

One of the most recurring problems in air conditioners are clogged and dirty filters. Over time, air filters start to accumulate all sorts of buildup, from dander, to dust. When all this overloads the filter, it becomes impossible for air to flow through, and ultimately reduces your air conditioner’s ability to cool down your living space.

This is why it’s critical that you replace or clean your air filters every few months. This won’t just keep your air conditioner working at full capacity, but it will also improve the air quality that you breathe. After all, who wants to breathe dirty air full of all sorts of particles?

Broken Thermostat

In some cases the cause for your air conditioning woes may come down to a faulty thermostat. If your thermostat isn’t detecting the temperature correctly, then that means that it will signal the air conditioner to turn on and off at inappropriate moments. This can result in your system running continuously without ever reaching the desired temperature, and significantly increasing your energy bill.

Not to mention, this is not ideal for the environment. If you suspect that your thermostat isn’t working correctly, consider calling an expert, and if you do find that it’s not working correctly, consider upgrading to a new one that is programmable and accessible from anywhere you are. In other words, you can adjust your temperature even if you’re not at home.

Blocked Airflow

In many cases you’re air conditioner may not be working because something is blocking its air flow. Any obstructions around your outdoor air conditioning unit from debris, to bushes or trees, can cause your outdoor unit to lack efficiency. If you’ve ensured that your indoor unit is working correctly, then go outside and make sure there is nothing blocking the air flow of your outdoor unit. Keeping everything around the unit clear and open will ensure it has enough space to ensure air flow keep your home nice and cool even on the hottest of days.
