A brand new 4 inch iPhone is on the cards. Nope, you are reading it right. Apple has officially announce the iPhone SE on the event on 21st of March, 2016. While, we may not agree with this retro size, Apple is known for making things happen. Plus, with all the oversized phones coming out, there is still a market for phones that will actually fit comfortably in the hand and still offer decent features. Apart from this El Capitan is likely to get an update as well. We may still have to wait for the flagship device a bit longer though.
And while we do that, let us learn about why smartphones dominate our lives and what do people use them for.
Let us start by quoting randomly interesting figures. The world population currently stands at around 7.1 billion. Compared to it, the number of smartphones in the world stands at roughly 1.4 billion. This means that every 1 in 5 people have a smartphone. However, the total number of mobile devices is about to exceed the total human population by the end of 2016. According to estimates, it will be around almost 7.7 billion.
The importance of smartphones can be judged from the fact that 75% of Americans take their smartphones to the bathrooms. And 85% use smartphones while watching TV. Most of the time is spent on using Social Media Applications such as Facebook and Twitter. Americans send 380 million tweets every day and 370 million likes are shared on Facebook. To put things in perspective, the American population stands at around 320 million only.
What about some of the more serious stuff? Well smartphones are used to send 191 billion emails every day. That is more mail than the USPS, one of the largest mail delivery companies, delivers in a whole year. The number of mobile payments made daily has surpassed $1.1 billion. People are also using the smartphones for searching the internet and Google is known to have updated its algorithms to include mobile optimization for ranking a search result.
1 in 4 Americans have used their smartphone to save money, mostly by using coupons. This is understandable as redeeming a coupon is easy and convenient, but then that can be said about the previous uses as well.
