Applications for Qualcomm Semiconductor Mentorship Program (‘Qualcomm SMP’) 2022 now open

Qualcomm India Private Limited, a part of the Qualcomm group of companies  collectively “Qualcomm”, is inviting applications on Startup India portal for the Qualcomm® Semiconductor Mentorship Program (‘QSMP’) 2022. The inaugural edition of the program was announced in April this year in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at SemiconIndia Conference 2022 held in Bengaluru. The latest addition to Qualcomm’s initiatives under its Design in India program to encourage Indian innovation, this program will provide select Indian startups in the semiconductor space with mentorship, technical training, and industry outreach support.

The collaboration is aimed at nurturing technical advancements and intellectual-property-driven innovation and product development in semiconductor design. It will also serve as a knowledge base for the selected startups and facilitate access to domain experts, VCs, accelerators, incubators, industry associations and large companies to help them scale up their business. Furthermore, it will enable the creation of platforms that provide the startups with opportunities to work with high-growth-potential small businesses and startups that could potentially reshape semiconductor supply chains in the future.

The window for registrations will conclude on Aug 21st, 2022, with Qualcomm shortlisting up to 10 semiconductor design startups for the program. Shortlisted startups will be mentored by Qualcomm leaders on product planning and development. Qualcomm will also facilitate “Masterclass” workshops for these startups on technical aspects such as semiconductor design, testing, and verification packaging, as well as non-technical aspects such as pitches, IPR, marketing, government incentives/opportunities, and scaling up teams. C-DAC and Qualcomm will also help these startups gain exposure to government stakeholders through meetings, webinars, seminars, and trade shows.

Rajen Vagadia, Vice President, Qualcomm India Private Limited and President, Qualcomm India & SAARC, said, “Semiconductors are important building-blocks of our technologically connected world. Today, more than ever, it is important to have diversified and reliable domestic resources in the semiconductor industry. We now have an opportunity to innovate not just for ourselves, but also for the world, backed by the government’s resolve to build a resilient semiconductor ecosystem in the country. We are committed to catalyzing and supporting innovation in the startup ecosystem and nurturing India’s design-and-engineering talent through initiatives such as the Qualcomm Semiconductor Mentorship Program.”

  1. Magesh, Director General of C-DAC, said,“A new era of growth and innovation is sweeping across India, with startups creating new business models, attracting global investments, and creating jobs within the country. The government has been working to support the growth of semiconductor startups through various incentives andprograms such as “Make in India” and the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme. These efforts, together with support from India’s private sector, can truly make India the global leader in semiconductor innovation.”

Qualcomm Semiconductor Mentorship Program 2022 will complement Qualcomm’s other initiatives for startups such as the Qualcomm Design in India Challenge, India’s longest running hardware incubation program for startups and Qualcomm Women Entrepreneur India Network, a mentorship program for women led technology startups.
