3 Tips For Protecting Your Eyes When Using Screens All Day

If you’re someone who uses screens for a large portion of their day—be it in the morning as you’re getting ready for work, during your work hours, and in the hours you spend after work—there are some things you should be doing to help protect your eyes from the potential damage you could be doing. Luckily, these things are all pretty easy and will help immensely in keeping your eyes safe and comfortable with all of the time that you spend looking at screens.

To help you with this aspect of your life, here are three tips for protecting your eyes when using screens all day.

Adjust Your Screen For Comfort

One of the first things that you should do to help your eyes be comfortable when looking at a screen for many hours a day is to adjust the screen so that it’s better for your eyes.

While you might need to have the screen be bright if you’re using a tablet outside so that you can see what you’re doing, ideally, you should try to keep the screen as dimly lit as possible while still being able to comfortably use it. This will reduce the strain on your eyes and make it so they don’t get as dry or tired during the day.

Keep Your Eyes From Getting Too Dry

In addition to keeping your screen softly lit when using your device, there are other things that you can do to help keep your eyes from getting dry and tired as you’re using screens.

One way to keep your eyes moist is to have more moisture in the room that you’re using your screens in. This can be done by plugging in a humidifier and letting it add more moisture to the room. If this isn’t a possibility for you, you can also use eye drops to periodically add some moisture straight into your eyes and keep them properly lubricated.

Give Your Eyes Time To Rest At Night

The way you allow your eyes to rest at the end of the day can have a big impact on how comfortable and safe your eyes are able to remain when using screens throughout the day.

Ideally, when you’re getting close to the end of your night, you should stop using screens altogether so that your eyes can get a real break. And for added healing, you should try to get as much sleep as possible at night. When you sleep, your body has time to rest and heal, especially with your eyes. So the more sleep you’re able to get at night and the longer you’re able to keep your eyes closed, the better off your eye health will be.

If you look at screens for the vast majority of your day, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn how to rest and recover your eyes.
