According to the Consumer Electronics & Appliances Manufacturers’ Association (CEAMA) approximately, 14.5 million television sets were sold in India in 2015, of which 2 million were of the CRT TV’s.

In FY’2014, the 32 inches to 40 inches LED television segment accounted for a lion’s share of about 63% of the overall sales in the LED market. Although sales of LCD and LED TV sets have grown 28 per cent annually in the last five years, flat panel TVs are yet to replace CRTs completely.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Avneet Singh Marwah, Director, SPPL said, “As a socially aware brand we have launched our campaign of “CRT Mukt Bharat” with a point agenda of decommissioning CRT monitors/TVs in the Indian market, to ensure that customers are aware of the economic, social and personal damage this technology entails. As a lot of you might be aware, CRT (cathode Ray Tube) monitors are a hazard to the environment as recycling them is a tough task and taking into consideration India’s infrastructure most of the CRT’s end up as bio-hazards. Additionally, as we move towards a ‘smarter economy’, we should adopt/promote cutting edge consumer technology so that the end customer benefits from the strides being made in the field. Furthermore, through our campaign of making India CRT Free, we also want to highlight the high electricity consumption of CRT models, CRT radiation levels and pricing asymmetry prevalent in the Indian TV segment. We are optimistic of receiving an overwhelming response from our existing and potential customers in making India ‘Smart’. ”

Noida based Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd. (SPPL) had entered into a strategic brand licensing relationship to bring the Kodak brand to the Indian TV market in August 2016
