Micromax sells more than half a million Bharat 2 smartphones in 50 days

Micromax Informatics, India’s leading mobile brand, has sold more than half a million Bharat 2 smartphones in less than 1.5 months of its launch. This makes the Bharat 2 as one of India’s largest selling 4G VoLTE phones in the country. The Bharat Series, is aimed at first generation smartphone users in the country who still haven’t migrated from a feature phone. The smartphone is the most affordable 4G VoLTE device with 1.3 GHz Quad core processor, a 1300 mAh battery, running on the Android Marshmallow, and is attractively priced at Rs. 3499/-

The smartphone is enabling the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country by hand-holding consumers to upgrade from feature phones to smartphones. The company is also working on another compelling handset in the Bharat series- Bharat 1, which will be 4G enabled feature phone. The recent update from Google on a lighter OS to enable low cost phones, is a testimony that the price segment between 2.5K- 3.5K is a massive category in the Indian handset market.  With its Bharat series, Micromax is one of the first handset players to fill the need gap leaving behind some of the international smartphone players in this price segment.

Commenting on the success of Bharat Series, Shubhodip Pal, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer said “At Micromax, we are always working consistently to make technology accessible for our users. With the launch of Bharat 2, we have truly driven the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country as in a short span of 50 days we have sold more than half a million Bharat 2 smartphones. He added “We also believe that Bharat gives Micromax opportunity to kick start a digital revolution, helping India progress. The company has further strengthened its distribution network from 34-35,000 to 60,000 outlets as majority of the users in this category are offline users and are looking for compelling products that connect them digitally. Going ahead we expect the Bharat series to contribute over 40% to the Micromax’s portfolio.”

About Bharat 2: Micromax Bharat 2 features an aesthetic design, which is currently missing in the price segment and has a patterned anti-slip battery cover that is powered by Spreadtrum SC9832 1.3Ghz Quad Core processor with 512MB RAM + 4GB ROM. On display the phone has 4” WVGA display and has 2MP rear camera with 0.3MP front camera. The device also comes with different camera modes like scene, frame and burst which at the entry level of smartphones is a feature that users will enjoy. The handset runs on Android Marshmallow with 1300 mAh battery
